- Why it's listed
- Context windows are among the largest of any free assistant.
- Consider before using
- Very long contexts slow responses down.
From the vendor's site: Kimi is Moonshot AI's assistant, built around unusually large context windows for reading whole books, codebases or document sets at once. The chat app is free, and Moonshot's Kimi K2 model is released as open weights with a low-cost API for developers.
What it is
Kimi reads and answers questions over very large inputs — upload several PDFs, paste a long transcript, or point it at links, then ask across everything at once. The same account works in the browser and the mobile apps, and developers reach the underlying models through an OpenAI-compatible API.

Verdict
The tool to reach for when the input is too big for other assistants — long documents, entire repos, research piles. For everyday chat, DeepSeek is the stronger reasoner.
